The German admitted his admiration for Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend, after having been linked with the Arsenal manager’s job.
Key Arsenal managerial target Thomas Tuchel spoke to reporters over the weekend, and admitted that he has a soft spot for the Gunners’ fierce rivals Tottenham, as quoted by Football.London.
Arsenal have endured a woeful campaign this season, and they currently sit in sixth spot in the Premier League table, a full 13 points adrift of their bitter rivals Spurs in fourth position.
Arsene Wenger’s time in charge at the Emirates appears to be inching ever closer to an end, with the majority of Gunners fans now calling for the Frenchman’s head.
According to German publication Sport Bild, Tuchel is being lined up by the Arsenal hierarchy as Wenger’s successor, although there was no timescale included in the report.
The former Borussia Dortmund boss threw a spanner in the works over the weekend, though, admitting that he has always been fond of Spurs, as quoted by Football.London:
“As a little kid in my garden I was always a team from the Bundesliga. There was one team I liked with my friends though and that was Tottenham Hotspur because I liked the name.”
Wenger can, of course, still salvage this season by winning the Europa League, and it would be no surprise to Arsenal fans to see him do just that and stay on in the Gunners hot-seat for at least another season.
If Tuchel does eventually replace the Frenchman in charge at the Emirates, though, Tottenham fans will be sure to remind their rivals of the German’s recent comments.
