Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer has suggested that he snubbed a move to West Ham United this summer.
Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer has suggested to LAOLA1 in his native Austria that he snubbed a move to West Ham United as he didn’t want to play at left back for the Hammers.
Wimmer, 24, joined Spurs from German side Koln back in the summer of 2015, but he has been a bit-part player in North London, making just 14 Premier League appearances as he has mostly served as cover for Jan Vertonghen.

Wimmer’s lack of first-team football has led to suggestions that he could leave the club this summer in order to make sure he doesn’t lose his place with the Austrian national team – and Premier League clubs appear to be interested.
LAOLA1 report that Crystal Palace and Stoke City are both keen to land Wimmer before this month’s transfer window, whilst it’s added that he has already snubbed a move to London rivals West Ham United.
Wimmer is quoted as saying that he didn’t want to play as a left back, and would prefer to play consistently in his favoured position of centre back, which should set alarm bells ringing for West Ham duo Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku.
The pair are currently battling it out to be West Ham’s first-choice left back, with Masuaku coming in for criticism for his performance in Sunday’s 4-0 defeat at Manchester United, whilst Cresswell has been out of form in 2017 after a battle with injuries last season.

It’s surprising that anybody would want to sign Wimmer as a left back after his questionable displays there for Tottenham and Austria last season, but West Ham boss Slaven Bilic is seemingly considering other options at left back – and that could spell bad news for both Cresswell and Masuaku.
Palace boss Frank de Boer may fancy Wimmer as a left-sided centre back in his three-man defence, with defensive reinforcements understandably important for the Eagles after Saturday’s 3-0 hammering at the hands of Huddersfield, though any move would involve negotiating with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who will always drive up the price of his players, even if they’re bit-part players like WImmer.
