Kevin Wimmer is set to go up against former side Tottenham with Stoke on Saturday.

Stoke City defender Kevin Wimmer has told the Stoke Sentinel that the Potters have a “little advantage” over Tottenham Hotspur due to Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld being unavailable for Saturday’s clash.

The two sides go head to head for the first time since the 25-year-old moved to Staffordshire in the summer for a fee believed to be worth a huge £18million, with Spurs struggling for any kind of Premier League form.

Austria international Wimmer’s tough-tackling style of play has impressed many fans at the Britannia Stadium, and he will be tasked with keeping former teammate Harry Kane quiet come Saturday afternoon at Wembley.

However, Wimmer believes that Stoke have an advantage in the game due to Spurs’ lack of options in defence, with Alderweireld out until the new year with a hamstring injury while Sanchez serves the first of a three-match ban.

“Sanchez and Alderweireld are two excellent defenders but with Eric Dier and Jan Vertonghen they still have world class players,” Wimmer said. “Of course, maybe it’s a little advantage for us but they still have a lot of quality.

“We have a positive feeling from beating Swansea. Of course it will be a very tough game but we will fight for 90 minutes and hopefully we can get something out of it.”

Mark Hughes’ side will come into the match at Wembley in positive mood after beating Swansea City 2-1 last time out on home soil, taking positives from Spurs’ recent form.

The north Londoners have won just two points from a possible 12 in their last four games, losing to Arsenal and Leicester City as well as drawing against West Brom and Watford.

Spurs currently sit 18 points behind league leaders Manchester City way down in sixth place, but three points could see them climb back up to fifth spot if Arsenal lose on the south coast against Southampton.
