According to The Telegraph, Stoke City manager Paul Lambert has put former Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer on a special fitness regime.

It has been reported that the Stoke boss has placed the 25-year-old centre-back on a special training programme.

The Austria international has not featured for the Potters since the appointment of Lambert in January.

It seems that Wimmer is not fit at the moment to the standards required, and while Stoke are the clear losers, Tottenham are the quiet winners.

Tidy profit for Tottenham Hotspur

After all, it was Spurs who sold Wimmer to Stoke in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by The Telegraph to be worth £18 million.

The Austrian made only a handful of appearances in the Premier League for Spurs before making the switch to Stoke, and Tottenham have not missed him at all.

Given that Spurs signed Wimmer from Koln for just £4.3m in the summer of 2015, according to The Telegraph, club chairman Daniel Levy made quite a bit of profit on a player who cannot even get into the squad of a club who could well be playing in the Championship next season.

Levy is known as a shrewd negotiator in transfer dealings, and in selling Wimmer for £18m, he pulled off a remarkable and stunning sale.
