Tottenham Hotspur have finally announced that Son Heung-min has signed a new contract until 2025.
There’s been speculation for much of the year that Son was set to put pen to paper on a new contract in North London.
But with an impasse in negotiations, combined with the major doubt over Harry Kane’s future at Spurs, there was a bit of anxiety that the deal hadn’t been done.
However, Son is staying at Tottenham for the long term after this morning’s announcement and here’s how the player himself reacted to the news on Instagram:
A number of Son’s former teammates reacted on Instagram:
Former Lilywhites centre-back Kevin Wimmer, who left in 2017, responded by writing: “Best player!”, while the likes of Michel Vorm and Kyle Walker-Peters posted a number of flame and goat emojis.
Exciting
The phrase ‘like a new signing’ is a bit of a cliche in football.
But this will excite Tottenham fans almost as much as a new signing because, as mentioned, the longer the delay, the greater the relief.
And with Kane’s future still seemingly set to be elsewhere, re-signing Son was more important than ever.
Losing Kane, if it happens, will be a devastating blow for the North Londoners and no matter what Spurs get for him, they won’t be able to afford a better striker because, well, there probably isn’t one.
Son is far and away the club’s second-most important player and this ensures that Nuno Espirito Santo has someone to build his attack around if the England international does leave.
