The German talent has lost his place as number one at the Parc des Princes.
Everton’s draw against Manchester United in the Premier League at the weekend proved something many an Everton fan knew before the season started – the club needs a new first-choice goalkeeper.
When Maarten Stekelenburg arrived, it was assumed the Dutch international was signed as a back-up, but he soon became the number one.
Everton’s Maarten Stekelenburg
He had some great moments. He was excellent v Tottenham on the opening day and who can forget his double penalty save v Manchester City?
But his form is inconsistent and for Everton fans the last straw was his rash decision to come flying out of his goal against Manchester United, allowing Zlatan Ibrahimovic the chance to score.
So who should Everton be looking at?
Paris St Germain’s Kevin Trapp
One option they would be foolish not to consider is German stopper Kevin Trapp.
The 26-year-old German star was signed by the French side Paris Saint-Germain last summer and immediately ousted Salvatore Sirigu as the club’s number one.
Since then however youngster Alphonse Areola has overtaken him in the pecking order and the German is on the bench.
PSG’s Kevin Trapp at the end of the match
He is undoubtedly a player who should not be sitting on the bench in Ligue 1. The German is a potentially world-class stopper and Everton could offer him undoubted first-team football at Goodison Park.
Even if only on loan Trapp could be the perfect option for Everton in the winter transfer window.
