Reported Newcastle United target Kevin Trapp has ruled out a move to the Premier League by telling Four Four Two that he is happy to fight for his place at Paris Saint-Germain.

The Daily Mail reported this week that Newcastle were interested in signing the German goalkeeper on loan for the rest of the 2017-18 campaign.

The 27-year-old has only managed two Ligue 1 appearances this season due to Alphonse Areola’s form, and speculation of a winter exit is plausible.

However, Trapp, who has two caps for Germany, says that he is willing to stay in the French capital for now, rather than leave.

“For now, I want to stay,” Trapp said to Four Four Two. “I am in Paris, even though I do not have enough playing time.

“There are things that cannot be changed. As soon as I play, I want to do my best.

“I want to show that even with this lack of playing time, I am able to play well. The goal after the season is the World Cup.”

It’s a big blow for Newcastle who face another disappointing transfer window, and it seems like manager Rafael Benitez – whose self-imposed deadline for transfers is January 20 – has only nine days to find a better goalkeeper than Rob Elliot or Karl Darlow.

The Spaniard might have been banking on Trapp being available, given his situation at Parc des Princes, and these comments will be a massive blow.
