Former Glasgow Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty recently suggested that he would like to return to Ibrox in the future.

Former Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson has suggested that the Gers could do a lot worse than consider bringing Kyle Lafferty back to Ibrox following the striker’s recent comments, but offered his old teammate a warning about potentially heading back, the Daily Record reports.

Lafferty got Rangers fans talking this week after telling the Daily Record that he would love to come back to the club he left in acrimonious circumstances back in 2012.

And while Thomson admitted to previously having doubts about the Northern Irishman, he suggested that he could well do a good job for the Light Blues if he was given the chance to come back, but warned the 29-year-old that he would need to do brilliantly to start appeasing the supporters wholly against the idea of seeing him return.

“Laff had an up and down time at Rangers but I got on great with him. I’ve watched him closely and whenever I watch Northern Ireland I’ve noticed Kyle has matured,” he said, as reported by the Record.

“He would be an asset if it was something Rangers wanted to consider. But he would certainly need to come back with an open mind and accept he’s got a few points to prove.”

With Lafferty’s contract with current club Norwich City set to expire this summer (via Record), it may not be that great a surprise if Pedro Caixinha deemed him to be a potential target given that his arrival would have little impact on whatever budget he has to work with.

However, his club form since his Ibrox departure has arguably done little to make Rangers fans miss him too much, and it is arguably more because of the struggles that the current crop of strikers have endured that a potential move seems so appealing with no player in the current squad reaching 10 league goals for the campaign.

But Thomson appears to be optimistic that if the club did decide to sign Lafferty once again, he would be capable of making an impact at Ibrox.
