Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers have appointed Graeme Murty as their manager, but should the Gers have gone for Tony Pulis?

Murty has been appointed as the Rangers manager until the rest of the season, having been in charge of the first team since October following the departure of Pedro Caixinha.
Results under the 43-year-old have been mixed, but Rangers are still very much in the race for the runners-up spot in the Scottish Premiership.
Former Rangers midfielder Thomson, 33, believes that the Ibrox club should have appointed ex-West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City boss Pulis as their permanent manager.

The Daily Record quotes Thomson, who won the league title in Scotland twice with Rangers in 2009 and 2010, as saying: ”I don’t know if the board are trying to buy time, if they’re writing this season off.
“Of course they shouldn’t be. I thought Tony Pulis should have been a strong candidate. He was available.”

Meanwhile, Steven Thompson has suggested that Rangers are writing off the 2017-18 season.
The former Rangers striker believes that giving Murty the managerial role until the end of the season suggests that the Ibrox club are buying time.
Thompson told BBC Sport Scotland Facebook live (Friday, December 22, 2017): “I think they are buying time. I think basically what you are doing there is writing off the season.”
Rangers are third in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 36 points from 20 matches, just three points behind second-placed Aberdeen and 11 points behind leaders and Old Firm rivals Celtic.
