Kenny Miller has enjoyed a great season for Glasgow Rangers, and currently tops the goalscoring charts at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.

Kevin Thomson has told the Daily Record that Kenny Miller will actually be disappointed about the fact that he has probably been Rangers’ best player this season.

Miller has enjoyed a tremendous year personally, currently topping the Gers’ scoring charts in the Scottish Premiership with nine goals to his name.

But in a disappointing year for the Light Blues, Miller’s – and perhaps, Clint Hill’s – form has been one of the few positives to come out of the season.

However, Thomson suggested that due to the 37-year-old’s age, he would rather not be the man that the team are turning to to get them out of trouble and would rather that his teammates’ form left him struggling to earn a place in the side.

“It’s just sad that at 37 he’s the main man. That’s no disrespect to him,” he said, as reported by the Record.

Rangers' Kenny Miller reacts

“He should be looking to help young ones take over his mantle but there’s nobody around at Ibrox just now.

“Knowing how unselfish he is Kenny probably wishes he wasn’t the best in the team at his age. He has that competitive edge in him where he wants to be the best.”

Miller’s professionalism this term should surely motivate the rest of the squad, and the attacking players should perhaps even be embarrassed that the veteran – who has even frequently played slightly deeper than the striker leading the line – is leading the club’s scoring charts in the top flight.

And his ability to roll back the years and continue to make an impact should inspire the rest of the squad, as well as the youngsters hoping to make the grade as they have no excuse not to do everything they can to make an impression for the first-team.

But Thomson believes that his former teammate would rather that the rest of the squad were making him seem redundant at this stage of his career.
