Glasgow Rangers winger Ryan Kent has been a revelation since arriving at Ibrox on loan.

Kevin Thomson told BT Sport’s live pre-match coverage of Rangers’ latest Scottish Premiership clash (broadcast on 24/2 from 11:45) that if he was to offer one criticism of Ryan Kent, it would be that he has not scored more goals during his time at Ibrox.

Kent has been an inspired signing for the Gers. He regularly looks like the most dangerous player in Steven Gerrard’s side, and it would be absolutely no surprise if Rangers attempted to try and extend the winger’s deal beyond the end of the campaign.

But ahead of the 5-0 thrashing of Hamilton on Sunday, Thomson – who lauded the youngster and predicted that Gerrard will look at another deal in the summer – suggested that his tally of five goals is probably not where he would want it to be.

“He’s just a player that picks up the ball and he’s always on the front foot. He’s always thinking about going past people. He’s always trying to make things happen,” he told BT Sport.

“The one criticism, which isn’t a big thing, I just think he’d personally want to chip in with some more goals. He’s only got five goals. He’s a terrific young talent and I’m sure the manager will want to keep him.”

In some ways, Kent’s tally is probably helping Rangers out heading into the summer. If he returns to Liverpool having scored 15 or more goals for the Gers, it would surely be a much tougher task for Gerrard to get him back, whether that be on another loan or on a permanent basis.

Kent would probably want to have more goals under his belt. But Gerrard could surely not ask much more of the 22-year-old. He has made a remarkable impact since his move to Rangers last summer, and if the Gers are going to turn the Premiership title race around, he is one of the players that Gerrard will be looking to to continue stealing the show.
