Glasgow Rangers are reportedly looking to bring Steven Davis back to Ibrox in January.

Davis is out of contract at Southampton in the summer, and the Record reports that he is keen to rejoin the Gers with Ralph Hasenhuttl ready to let the Northern Ireland international leave St Mary’s.
The 33-year-old may be edging towards the end of his career and may have struggled for game-time with the Saints this season, but Gers youth coach Thomson – who played alongside the midfielder during his previous stint at Ibrox – insisted that he would be a superb addition to Steven Gerrard’s side.
“It is great to think Steve could be the next player to return,” he said, as reported by the Daily Record. “I have no doubt he would be able to help the current Rangers team.

“He is the kind of player Steven Gerrard would really like. Gerrard always bangs on about being able to trust his players and Steve is one he could trust.”
Thomson also alluded to Allan McGregor’s return in his assessment of Davis’ potential move, and there is no question that the goalkeeper’s form should encourage Gerrard.

McGregor has arguably been Rangers’ player of the season so far, already putting together a showreel of saves. It will be more difficult for Davis given that he will have a role in the middle of the park, but he has the quality to make a similarly major impact for the Gers.
With a potential title race on the cards in the Scottish Premiership, it would certainly be a fantastic statement if Gerrard could quickly get a deal done for Davis when the January window opens.
