The Manchester United captain has been linked with a return to Everton in recent weeks.
Former Everton star Kevin Sheedy has told talkSPORT that he thinks Toffees fans would want Wayne Rooney back at the club.
The Manchester United captain is struggling for form at this moment in time and has been dropped from the first team by Jose Mourinho.
Questions are being asked about his future at the club and whether he has a role to play at Old Trafford moving forward.

That has sparked suggestions that a return to Everton could be on the cards, with Ronald Koeman having admitted they would be open to the idea.
And Sheedy has offered his backing to it happening; saying he believes Everton fans would be open to the idea.
“I think it would be good for Wayne himself,” Sheedy told talkSPORT.
“Things aren’t going great for him at both England and Man Utd and maybe a move to Everton would really kick-start him.
“The fans would want him and I am sure, if the opportunity was there, then Everton would take the chance to take him.”

It will be interesting to see what happens with Rooney in the coming months given his current situation at Old Trafford.
Unfortunately, a return to Everton is unlikely, simply because of the finance it would take to make it happen.
Rooney is on big wages at Old Trafford and would have to take a serious reduction before he would fit into the Blues current wage structure.
He would similarly demand a relatively large transfer fee and that combined with his wages would likely make Everton think focusing on other targets would be a wiser move.
