Everton legend Kevin Sheedy has told the club’s official website that he uses Seamus Coleman as an example to the club’s youngsters.

The Republic of Ireland defender has been a big hit at Goodison Park since arriving from Sligo Rovers in 2009.

In that time he has established himself as one of the leading right-backs in the Premier League at Goodison Park.

He has also become a regular on the international stage and now finds himself as the captain of the Republic of Ireland.

His rise is a perfect route for youngsters to follow and youth coach Sheedy says he uses the fullback as an example for his current crop of talent.

“Seamus is one I use as an example to our younger lads now,” he told the club’s official website.

“He was in the reserves when he first arrived here, then he got a move to Blackpool on loan and that really got his career going. He got promotion to the Premier League and came back a different player.

“He’s gone from strength to strength since then and now he’s one of the best right-backs in the league.”

Everton will be hoping there is more development to come from Coleman under new manager Ronald Koeman.

The Dutchman has a strong record of developing fullbacks, with the likes of Nathaniel Clyne and Cedric Soares both impressing under his leadership at Southampton.

Coleman has endured two disappointing years under Roberto Martinez and will be keen to pick up under the Dutchman.
