Wayne Rooney recently joined Everton from Manchester United.
Everton recently re-signed Rooney from Premier League rivals Manchester United on a two-year contract.
The England international forward started his professional club football at the Toffees and left for the Red Devils in 2004.
During his time at Old Trafford, Rooney established himself as one of the best players in the world, but in the last two or so seasons, the 31-year-old’s performances have not been great.
Rooney, who has also operated as a midfielder, struggled for playing time at United last season, and he seems to be past his prime.
Everton legend Ratcliffe, who is 56 years of age, has suggested that the England international could struggle to play well for the Toffees.
“I’m a little unsure where Wayne Rooney fits into all this,” Ratcliffe told The Mirror. “I wonder where he will break into the team? He is still a very good player but where does he get in?
“Ronald Koeman likes a pressing game. I don’t know whether Wayne can do that now. He will always do his best even if you stuck him in goal.
“He still has great awareness and is a good passer of the ball but the pace of the game that Everton play could pass him by.”
Rooney is one of a number of signings that Everton have made so far in the summer transfer window.
Sandro Ramirez, Michael Keane, Jordan Pickford and Davy Klaassen are some of the other new players that the Toffees have recruited this summer.
