Kevin Ratcliffe, Everton’s most successful captain, says that Swansea City’s attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson is good enough to play for the Toffees.
Sigurdsson has been linked with the Blues over the past few seasons, and Ratcliffe is impressed with what the Iceland midfielder offers on the pitch.
The former Everton skipper is impressed with Sigurdsson’s consistency, and his ability on the ball.

“Gylfi Sigurdsson has been linked with the Blues many times over the past few seasons. He’s certainly good enough for Everton. There’s no doubt about that. He hasn’t just done it this year he has done it time and time again,” wrote Ratcliffe in his column for The Liverpool Echo.
“He takes free-kicks, corners, has a great delivery and he will shoot from outside the box. Even better he has that ability of being able to anticipate where the ball is going to drop in the box and that’s a quality you can’t coach.”
Sigurdsson has enjoyed a brilliant campaign for Swansea City, scoring nine goals and providing 12 assists, according to whoscored.com.
Besides, Everton’s chances of signing him will only improve if Swansea get relegated at the end of the season, and they won’t face much problem in matching his £70k-per-week wages (Daily Star).
Certainly, Sigurdsson would love to continue playing in the Premier League.
Ronald Koeman, the Everton manager, said recently that he will be looking to sign a midfielder who can score eight to 12 goals in a season.
This is one area where Everton need to improve in the coming season. Romelu Lukaku has done the bulk of scoring (24 goals in the Premier League), whereas, the likes of Ross Barkley and Kevin Mirallas have found the net only four times each.
Ratcliffe adds that if Everton do sign Sigurdsson, Koeman should rethink Barkley’s position, and may need to shuffle his midfield.
