Everton legend Kevin Ratcliffe says Ashley Williams is making uncharacteristic errors.
Everton legend Kevin Ratcliffe in his column for The Liverpool Echo has noted that Wales defender Ashley Williams is making “uncharacteristic” errors.
The 56-year-old has said that defenders often make mistakes and get away with it, but in Williams’ case, those errors have resulted in goals for the side – against Manchester United in the Premier League and Apollon Limassol in the Europa League.
Ratcliffe finds these mistakes from Williams uncharacteristic.
“Ashley Williams has been punished for two high profile mistakes this season,” Ratcliffe wrote for The Liverpool Echo. “Sometimes you can make a mistake and get away with it and people don’t remember it.
“In Ashley’s case his mistakes have cost goals against Manchester United and Apollon Limassol. I have seen Ashley an awful lot in action for Wales and errors like that are uncharacteristic.”
The former Everton player feels that some of the current players are now under pressure, more than they ever have been at in their career.
Despite spending heavily this summer, Everton have made a poor start to the season, languishing at the 16th place in the Premier League table.
The Toffees have won just once in their last six games in the Premier League, and Ronald Koeman has to turn the situation around.
Everton have conceded 12 goals already this season, and lost heavily against Spurs and Manchester United.
Williams have won 1.3 tackles, compared to 1.7 and 1.8 by Keane and Jagielka respectively, according to whoscored.com. However, he has made more clearances than either of the two players.
