Jarrod Bowen has scored nine Championship goals for Hull City – imagine the impact he’d have on Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United.
Kevin Phillips believes that Leeds United could be all-but unstoppable if they signed a prolific goalscorer in the January transfer window. And, speaking to Quest (2 November, 9pm), the legendary striker believes that Hull City talisman Jarrod Bowen could be the missing piece in Marcelo Bielsa’s jigsaw.
The former Hereford youngster plundered 22 goals in the Championship last season and he is already threatening to beat that career-best tally thanks to an outstanding start to 2019/20 under Grant McCann.
Bowen scored his ninth of the campaign already as Hull stunned Fulham with a 3-0 win at Craven Cottage on Saturday, bamboozling £15 million centre-back Alfie Mawson before slotting into the far corner (Guardian).
The Mail reported in December last year that Leeds had identified the 22-year-old as a potential replacement for Samu Saiz at Elland Road with Hull demanding £6.5 million at the time.
Bowen might be out of The Whites’ price-range almost a year on but, according to Phillips, renewing their interest wouldn’t be a bad idea with Premier League football on the line.
“He’s a quality player and there’s a lot of talk about him moving on. His movement is very good and his technical ability. He’s a player who is going places,” said the former Sunderland and Aston Villa striker.
“Dare I say it, put him in the Leeds team in January and he might be the difference between them getting promoted or not.”
The Express reported in October that Bowen will cost £20 million these days amid interest from Newcastle and Southampton. So Leeds, who need to be wary of breaching Financial Fair Play, would probably have to look at a loan deal with an obligation-to-buy, a la Helder Costa, if they want to sign a player who could turn them into runaway title favourites.
