Kevin Phillips explained why Chris Brunt’s reported outburst at his fellow players following their defeat to West Brom was ‘fantastic’, when writing a column for the Express & Star, and highlighted how it could prove to be the catalyst for the Baggies’ impending improvement.

The Express & Star reported how the Northern Ireland international questioned his manager’s tactics and his teammates’ commitment in the dressing room, following his side’s defeat to the Terriers on Saturday.

The Black Country outfit currently sit rock-bottom of the Premier League table, seven points adrift of safety, and their hopes of retaining their top flight status this season are slipping away with every week that passes.

Phillips, who scored 46 goals for West Brom, explained why Brunt’s reported outburst after the game is exactly what his former club needed at this moment in time, when writing a column for the Express & Star:

“Chris Brunt had some strong words for Pardew and his team-mates in the changing room after the game. That was fantastic. I think it’s really good he spoke out. That is the passion you need.”

Next up for Pardew’s men is a trip to Watford on Saturday, before they host Leicester City the following weekend, and a return of four points from those outings will be the bare minimum that is required, if they are to give themselves a genuine chance of avoiding the drop this season.
