Wolverhampton Wanderers are currently 13 points clear of Aston Villa in the Championship table.

Kevin Phillips assistant coach at Derby County looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Derby County and Burton Albion at iPro Stadium on December 2, 2017 in Derby, England.

Kevin Phillips shared how Wolves’ ability to bounce back from defeats has enabled them to separate themselves from the rest of the Championship, when writing his regular column for the Express & Star.

The Black Country outfit currently sit at the top of the Championship table, six points clear of second placed Cardiff City, and more importantly, a further seven clear of third placed Fulham.

Nuno Espirito Santo deserves great credit for the manner in which he has gone about his business during his time in charge at Molineux, considering how poor Wolves were last season.

The Portuguese has changed the whole mentality at the club, and they are now a totally different prospect.

Phillips raved about the quality of the Wolves squad, when writing his regular column for the Express & Star, highlighting the difference between them and the Midlands rivals Aston Villa:

“Wolves are different because they’re a class above everyone else when you look at their players – they had a blip against Villa but bounced back straight away. On the other hand Villa – and we’ve done it ourselves at Derby where we’re seven games without a win – lack that consistency. It just shows you the class Wolves have got in their ranks and unfortunately for Villa I’d suggest the top two are now done and dusted.”

Both Wolves and Villa now have two weeks without a game, due to the international break, and they will return to Championship duties with away games at Middlesbrough and Hull City respectively.

With just eight league games remaining, the Villans cannot afford any more slip-ups, if they are to stand any chance whatsoever of securing automatic promotion back to the Premier League.
