Everton suffered an away defeat to already-relegated Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Andre Gomes of Everton arrives at the stadium prior to the Premier League match between Fulham FC and Everton FC at Craven Cottage on April 13, 2019 in London, United Kingdom.

Sky Sports pundit Kevin Phillips has hit out at Andre Gomes for his tackle on Aleksandar Mitrovic during Everton’s 2-0 defeat against Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

The relegated London outfit won the Premier League encounter in front of their own supporters with Tom Cairney and Ryan Babel getting on the scoresheet.

During the game, midfielder Gomes stepped on Mitrovic’s ankle with the ball out of the picture, with the challenge looking pretty bad when looking at it at different angles.

Speaking to Goals on Sunday on Sky Sports Premier League (14/04/2019 at 12:30 pm), former Sunderland striker Phillips claimed that Gomes stepped on Mitrovic’s ankle deliberately.

“I have to say when you look at it from the other angle, it’s a naughty one,” Phillips told Goals on Sunday. “I can’t believe the referee [saying] ‘get up’.

“He doesn’t go down too easily does he Mitrovic?! He likes a tackle. He likes a bit of argie-bargie. For me that’s deliberate. He’s not even challenging for the ball. The ball is well gone. The referee is well out of the picture. I can’t believe he hasn’t seen it.”

Tom Cairney of Fulham is challenged by Andre Gomes of Everton during the Premier League match between Fulham FC and Everton FC at Craven Cottage on April 13, 2019 in London, United Kingdom.

In the game itself, Gomes went on to play the full 90 minutes and he wasn’t booked for the challenge on Mitrovic by referee Lee Probert.

Nonetheless, Marco Silva would be disappointed with his side losing this encounter because they had just got onto the right track in recent weeks.

After victories against the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, the Toffees have once again shown their inconsistencies under Silva, who has endured a fairly difficult campaign on Merseyside.
