Former West Ham United midfielder Kevin Nolan has told the club’s official website that he expects the Hammers to turn things around by the end of the season, rather than get relegated as some are fearing.

West Ham have endured a miserable start to the new Premier League season, as they’ve won just once in the first six games, losing the other five.

After losing 3-0 to Southampton on Sunday afternoon, West Ham have now conceded 11 goals in the last three games, and the pressure is now mounting on manager Slaven Bilic.

Bilic needs a result quickly, and will be hoping this weekend’s game against Middlesbrough sees West Ham pick up a much-needed victory.

Ahead of that game, ex-Hammers captain Kevin Nolan has spoken to the club’s official website, and has offered a message of support to his former club.

Nolan, 34, played more than 150 games for West Ham and was a key player under Sam Allardyce, before being allowed to leave by Bilic in 2015.

Now a free agent, Nolan has looked at the struggles of his former club, and has told the West Ham official website that he is expecting West Ham to turn things around sooner or later.

Nolan also called on five big characters – Mark Noble, James Collins, Andy Carroll, Cheikhou Kouyate and Adrian – to step up and inspire their team-mates to resolve the current issues.

“This is a time when the big characters need to stand up and inspire themselves and their teammates,” said Nolan. “We have got plenty of big characters at the Club like Nobes, Ginge, Andy, Cheikhou and Adrian, from those I played with, and they need to let the whole squad know that the players are the only ones who can get themselves out of the current situation.”

“I am fully expecting West Ham to turn things around by the end of the season, but for that to happen, the players cannot be allowed to go and sit in corners and feel sorry for themselves,” he added.
