Tottenham Hotspur’s Kieran Trippier is reportedly heading out of England as he is set to make a switch to Atletico Madrid.

Kevin Nolan has admitted that he has been left utterly perplexed by reports that Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier could be heading to Atletico Madrid this summer.

BBC Sport are reporting that right-back Trippier is set to join Atletico Madrid for £20 million, and he is set to leave the North London club after four years.

It has been a troublesome 12 months for Trippier, whose form has seriously dipped at club level and he has lost his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live (16/07/2019 at 8:25 pm), former Premier League midfielder Nolan stated that he would be ‘very surprised’ if Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t have a replacement in mind for Trippier.

“He had a fantastic World Cup last year,” Nolan told BBC Radio 5 Live. “He came back full of life, semi-finals, everyone talking about him being big money and then all of a sudden he’s the one out of the door for Tottenham.

“I find it really strange that they are selling him, but I think he did have a bit of a hangover after the World Cup last year and Iooking forward to see how this goes.

“Has Pochettino got something up his sleeve? [in terms of a new signing], which I’d be very surprised if he hasn’t in terms if he [Trippier] goes out and there’s someone coming in.”

Whether Pochettino has a replacement in mind, it remains to be seen, but if Trippier does move then he’ll have more money to spend in the window.

Added with that, Pochettino has players currently at the club that make that number one right-back spot their own if they impress during pre-season.

Serge Aurier is the most senior player and a player who will back himself, whilst Kyle Walker-Peters would perhaps be the fans’ choice, not forgetting that Juan Foyth has also been played in that position also in recent months.
