The Melbourne Victory coach spent a season with Rangers in the early 2000s and was this week linked as a possible successor to Mark Warburton at Ibrox.

Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat has told FourFourTwo Australia he has had no contact from old club Glasgow Rangers.
Earlier this week, the Scottish Sun linked the former Gers defender with a shock return to Ibrox as manager, following Mark Warburton’s departure eight days ago.
But the 43-year-old insisted he has given no consideration to said speculation, and is focused on seeing out the season with Victory, who sit second in the A-League standings.
“It’s something I’ve not given any consideration to,” Muscat said. “The reality is I’m contracted to Victory so I’ll just keep carrying on. One thing we don’t do is, with players, comment on speculation and that’s all this is at this point in time.”
Nevertheless, Muscat admitted it’s a good thing that A-League managers are starting to gain overseas recognition, as its players have in recent years.
“We’ve seen the exodus of players over a period of time, now that’s spreading to coaching staff, it’s great,” he added.
“(But) it’s not something I can consider at the moment because there’s nothing to consider. I’m not going to let anything, let alone speculation, distract from what we’re trying to do in the remainder of this season.
“I tell the players, especially the younger ones – ‘reach for the stars and if you fall somewhere short, you’ll be fairly satisfied.’
“I’m no different and this is a huge club, I’m honoured to be here and I love being here so I’m going to concentrate on doing the best possible job I can at this club.”
Muscat spent nearly a decade on British soil as a player, turning out for Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Millwall as well as Rangers, with whom he won the Scottish Premiership title in his only season in Glasgow.

Alex McLeish, the former Australia international’s manager that campaign, has also been linked with a return to Rangers in the aftermath of Warburton’s departure.
But with no appointment seemingly imminent, caretaker Graeme Murty looks to be in charge for the foreseeable future.
