Everton blocked Kevin Mirallas’ return to Olympiacos in the summer but he needs to escape Goodison Park as soon as possible.
When Ronald Koeman confirmed that Kevin Mirallas was dropped from the Everton squad for ‘attitude reasons’ ahead of their clash with Chelsea in late August, per the Liverpool Echo, it was expected that the Belgian winger would have a new club by the time September started.
Though, with two-and-a-half months until the January transfer window opens, Mirallas appears to be stuck in no-man’s land on Merseyside.
He was furious when Everton ‘turned a deaf ear’ to his desire to return to Olympiakos late in the summer, as reported by The Sun, and his lack of opportunities over the last few weeks will not have thawed an increasingly frosty relationship between player and club.
The 30-year-old has played just 21 minutes of football in the Premier League this season and has even been omitted from the 18-strong matchday squad on occasions recently too.
It’s fair to say the situation is far from ideal with the World Cup taking place at the end of the season. Mirallas was called up by former Everton boss Roberto Martinez for Belgium’s World Cup qualifying double header against Bosnia and Cyprus but did not feature in either game.
Mirallas, then, should do everything in his power to seal a move from Everton in January – his World Cup hopes depend on it.
