The Swiss defender has left the club, joining Young Boys.
Newcastle’s Kevin Mbabu and Chelsea’s Pedro in action
This week saw Newcastle United allow talented Swiss defender Kevin Mbabu leave the club.
The 22-year-old has completed a permanent move to Swiss side Young Boys after spending last season on loan at the club. The Swiss youth international, who joined Newcastle from Servette in 2013, never quite made the grade at the club despite his obvious talent and also spent time out on loan at Rangers in 2015.
Leaving the club is the sensible decision for the young man, who hopes to play more regular football back in his Swiss homeland. He is however clearly cut up about leaving St James’ Park – as he expressed via an emotional tribute to Newcastle United and its fans on his personal Twitter account:
It was a brilliant message from the young player who clearly felt appreciated by the Newcastle fans, even if he did not have a major impact on the Newcastle first-team.
Mbabu leaves Newcastle having played just five times for the club. Young Boys, who finished second to FC Basel in the Swiss Super League last season will now try to qualify for the Champions League through the qualifying stages.
