Rising star Kevin Mbabu regrets his decision to join Newcastle United.

If Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez knew that Kevin Mbabu would develop into quite a brilliant player, he probably wouldn’t have sanctioned his exit.
The 23-year-old, who managed only three league games for Newcastle, left the Magpies in the summer of 2017 to permanently join Young Boys in his native Switzerland.
And it’s fair to say that things have gone quite well for the excellent full-back, who also endured plenty of injury problems during his time on Tyneside.
In fact, Mbabu, who joined Newcastle in 2013 from Servette, was linked with Manchester United last summer [Fussball Info]. That’s how good things have been for him.
Consequence of his form, it’ll come as little surprise to fans of the St James’s Park side to hear that their former player – whose value has skyrocketed to £10 million [Sky Sports] – actually regrets joining the club.
He told The Chronicle: “The choice of Newcastle was not very good. But it helps me today.
“Mentally, I was tested enormously. I was injured in England for almost two of the three and a half years, and I had muscle problems all the time.

“Six, seven injuries. Physically, my body wasn’t ready for the intensity in Newcastle training. I did not have the best lifestyle and was too busy with too many things.”
The idea of him being worth £10 million must hurt Newcastle – but it could get a lot worse.
Mbabu is a rising star in football and considering he’s still only 23, he is only going to get much better, which means his value is only going to increase from here on in.
