Newcastle United will be looking to have a busy transfer window this summer as they aim to progress further in the Premier League.
Kevin Kilbane has claimed that Newcastle United target Juan Mata has ‘served his time’ at Manchester United amid rumours that Rafa Benitez wants him at St James’ Park.
The Sun have claimed that Benitez wants a reunion the 31-year-old playmaker at Newcastle if he stays on as manager as he could potentially rival Spanish giants Barcelona for his signature.
It is said that 2010 World Cup winner Mata is earning around £140k-a-week at United as his current deal at the club is due to expire next month.
If the Magpies do sign Mata then it would without a doubt be an uplifting signing for the North East outfit, who are hoping to take the next step under their current coach.
Speaking to Off the Ball’s official YouTube account (24/05/2019), former Republic of Ireland defender Kilbane shared his thoughts on Newcastle potentially signing Mata.
“Newcastle definitely should sign him,” Kilbane told Off the Ball. “Benitez got the best out of him at Chelsea. If he’s going to go back to Spain and Barcelona, that’s a no-brainer.
“But it looks as though he’s going to be gone. He has probably served his time there – Newcastle would be a great signing, but most likely to Barcelona.”
The up and coming summer is going to be a big one for Newcastle because if they can sign a number of good players and bulk up their squad then it’ll increase their chances of having a successful season next term.
A player of Mata’s qualities will no doubt increase their chances of producing the goods next term and playing a more attractive brand of football.
Not only that, the younger players in the squad, the likes of Ayoze Perez and Miguel Almiron would benefit with someone of Mata’s presence in the squad.
