Christian Eriksen’s Tottenham Hotspur beat Everton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Kevin Kilbane labelled Christian Eriksen as ‘world class’ after Tottenham’s 6-2 win against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.
Mauricio Pochettino assigned Eriksen to play a different role against the Toffees, with the Denmark international playing deeper in midfield than he usually would.
The 26-year-old scored Spurs’ fourth goal of the match when he brilliantly struck the ball from outside of the area to give his team a commanding lead.
After the match, former Premier League player Kilbane raved about Eriksen’s display at Goodison Park as he explained what he did so well.
“I think we saw a different sort of role that Christian Eriksen was playing today,” Kilbane told BBC’s Match of the Day 2 programme on 23/12/2018 at 10:50 pm. “He was quite deep, at times he was even deeper than Harry Winks. He was coming into play and having that sort of key position. 71 passes he made, the most out of any player on the pitch.
“But his quality left and right foot throughout the game. The ability to pick out a pass from the deep line position when he’s got willing runners like Son, Kane or Dele Alli – that is just unbelievable quality. The technique on his strike is just simply magnificent. That is a world-class strike from a world-class player.”
Despite falling behind to a Theo Walcott opener after 21 minutes, Pochettino’s side still managed to score six on the road, with the likes of Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane netting braces.
The comprehensive win against Everton puts Spurs two points behind second-placed Manchester City in the Premier League table as we enter Christmas.
Over the course of the season, Eriksen has found the back of the net on two occasions in the league and provided six assists for his teammates.
The former Ajax player, who has now scored in back-to-back league games, will be hoping to get on the scoresheet again when Tottenham host Bournemouth on Boxing Day.
