The summer transfer window will slam shut on August 8, but will Liverpool strike any major deals before then?
Kevin Kilbane has made it clear that there’s ‘no panic’ at Liverpool with the Champions League winners yet to do any major business during the summer transfer window.
The Reds finished as runners-up to Manchester City in the Premier League last season, but despite that heartbreak, they did go on to win their sixth European Cup.
Liverpool have only secured the permanent signature of one player this summer and that was highly-rated Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg.
It remains to be seen whether they will add any new fresh faces to their squad before the deadline, but whatever happens, former Premier League defender Kilbane made it clear that there’s no panic.
Should Liverpool fans be concerned: “No, not necessarily,” Kilbane told Off the Ball. “They do have one or two players [i.e. Oxlade Chamberlain and Joe Gomez] that are going to come back in and being fully fit now.
“Liverpool, if need be, they’ll sign someone in January if the season isn’t going to plan. I think they are in a very good position. There is a good feeling around the team. There is a great feeling around the club. Everyone has got on board with what Klopp has trying to implement there. I don’t see any major problems there.
“City have signed now and they will probably sign again, so they might be able to stretch clear. Liverpool don’t have that spending power. No-one has that spending power. It’s about trying to keep that togetherness they have. I don’t think there’s panic there. No chance.”
The likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Joe Gomez, and even youngster Rhian Brewster were on the sidelines for large parts of last season.
The trio, who are now fit and available, will be like new signings to Klopp, especially the attacking duo because the German is in need of more depth in the attacking third.
Oxlade-Chamberlain will perhaps provide the most value to Liverpool because they missed that something different in the middle of the park last season.
