Kevin Kilbane has been left unimpressed with reported Celtic and Rangers target Luca Connell and his indecision to play for the Republic of Ireland or represent England.

The Scottish Sun previously claimed that the likes of Celtic, Rangers, Wolves and Southampton are keen on the 18-year-old Bolton player.

But the team that does sign the Liverpool-born ace might be involved in another Declan Rice situation because Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy has stated that he is confident the youngster won’t deflect to England, as reported by the Times.

Previously, Kilbane has spoken honestly about the Rice situation as he told Off the Ball’s official YouTube account that he wouldn’t cap Connell, who has been training with the ROI senior squad, but is yet to be capped.

On capping Connell: “Definitely not, definitely not capping him,” Kilbane told Off the Ball. “I wouldn’t have capped Declan Rice.

“But, no, certainly not cap him. Unless he goes into the squad and he [McCarthy] is so impressed with him and you cannot have him on the bench or not have him involved in the two games. The Gibraltar games makes a more attractive game to cap him in.

“But if he’s not up to it and he’s in for the future two years down the line, you keep him for two or three years down the line. But definitely not cap him.”

Versatile defender Connell can operate in a number of defensive positions as he played for Bolton towards the back end of their relegation to League One.

Added with that, the club is also in near financial ruin, therefore, it isn’t a surprise that so many teams are looking at their best talents.

Nonetheless, it remains to be seen what will happen with Connell’s future as he could still play a part for Bolton in their quest to prove their worth in the third their of English football next season.
