Aston Villa will be hoping their supporters can play their part in helping them to victory when they take on West Ham United on Monday night.
Kevin Kilbane has claimed that he had ‘never seen’ an atmosphere like the one he saw and heard during Aston Villa’s win against Everton last month.
The former Premier League defender stated that if Villa can generate an atmosphere such as that, week in, week out then they can make their home ground a ‘fortress’ this season as they bid to stay in the Premier League following their promotion.
In the Championship, Villa had a very strong home record during the three seasons they were in the second-tier, but England’s top-flight is a completely different kettle of fish.
Speaking to Football Focus on BBC One (14/09/2019 12:25 pm), Kilbane was full of praise for the noise the Villa Park fans are generating.
“I was at that game that night and I have played at Villa Park often, I was there before they got relegated and I have never seen an atmosphere like that night at Villa Park,” Kilbane told Football Focus.
“It was amazing. It was an incredible evening. If they generate that atmosphere, week in, week out, it’ll be a fortress for them.”
Dean Smith’s side have started off the season in an indifferent manner and they will be well aware that their home form will be crucial in them staying up.
Despite having one win from their opening four matches, Villa’s performances have been encouraging, and they could argue they are deserving of more points on the board – cite their game against Palace before the international break.
Villa will take on Manuel Pellegrini’s in-form West Ham United on Monday night, with Robert Snodgrass returning to the club following his loan spell a couple of seasons ago.
