Newcastle United legend Kevin Keegan has told The Mirror that he wishes Rafael Benitez all the luck in the world as he attempts to win promotion back to the Premier League.
The Magpies were the pre-season favourites to win the Championship title following their relegation from the top flight at the end of last season, but defeats to Fulham and Huddersfield Town in the opening two games of the campaign made some pundits re-think their predictions.

Now though, Newcastle have racked up five wins in a row, with Tuesday’s stunning 6-0 away win over Queens Park Rangers meaning that Benitez’s men are now just one point off top spot.
With just one goal conceded in the last five Championship games, Newcastle are gathering real momentum, and look unbeatable right now.

Having snapped up the likes of Matz Sels, Jesus Gamez, Mohamed Diame, Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle – to name just a few – Newcastle remain firm favourites to win the Championship title, and Kevin Keegan has now had his say on the club.
Speaking to The Mirror, Keegan – who both played for and managed Newcastle – has stated that whilst Newcastle should be in the Premier League but aren’t this year, his confident prediction is that they definitely will be next season.
Keegan added that he wishes manager Benitez ‘all the luck in the world’, before raving about the Newcastle fans and their undying support for the club through thick and thin.

“Newcastle should be in the Premier League. They’re not in there at the moment, but they will be this time next year,” said Keegan. “I wish Rafa all the luck in the world.
“You’ll never lose what these people feel about this football club. They might not like certain things at certain times, but they’ll still be there. They’ll always be there,” he added.
