Kevin Durant is on his way out of Phoenix after another disastrous season for the Suns.
The Phoenix Suns had one of the most disappointing campaigns out of all 30 NBA teams in the 2024-25 season. Despite having superstars in Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, they failed to earn a postseason berth, as they did not even make the Play-In Tournament.
The Suns look directionless after the season, and KD is set to exit the team. Despite being 36, the two-time NBA Finals MVP is still a productive player, with some even tipping Durant to break LeBron James career point record before retiring.

Durant and the Suns are working together for the next move
The Suns have already started making big decisions, as they parted ways with head coach Mike Budenholzer after the final game of the regular season.
Phoenix stated they failed to meet expectations, which was true. Many saw Booker and Durant leading this team to the playoffs and possibly contending for a championship, but they could not even reach the postseason.
| Player | Kevin Durant | Devin Booker |
| 24-25 season averages | 26.6 points, six rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. | 25.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game. |
It is hard to blame the two superstars because they did their best. Their numbers show the duo was superb, but the rest of the team struggled.
The Suns however will have to do without one of their star players next season, as it seems Durant will be leaving Phoenix ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
That is according to Shams Charania, who told NBA today:
“From what I’m being told, the Suns and Durant as well as his business partner Rich Kleiman will be working together on his next trade home.
“But a lot of that will determine on the playoffs, which team feels like they are a Kevin Durant away from winning the championship. We will know within the next couple of months.”

Booker will remain as Phoenix’s building block
In addition to what Charania said about KD’s future, he also noted that Booker remains a big part of the Suns’ plans for the long-term future.
“From my understanding, he (Booker) remains a foundation of everything they are doing in Phoenix, everything else though has been up for discussion for the Suns except Devin Booker.”
The package they will get for Durant should be helpful for the Suns’ plans because they need to hit a reset button to get back on track.
They already tried going all-in with their current roster, which went up in flames. They are now looking to retool after KD’s exit because Booker expressed his desire for the situation to improve.
Phoenix’s future is unclear, but they could keep staying competitive with a team centered on Booker. It will be a tough road ahead, especially in the Western Conference, but the Suns are hopeful for better days.
