Kevin de Bruyne has admitted on Sky Sports (21/09/20 at 10:25 pm) that Manchester City are well aware of the ‘hard job’ they face in the Premier League title race if Liverpool can replicate the previously high standards they have set in recent seasons.

The Belgian playmaker scored and assisted during his side’s 3-1 win against Wolves yesterday and also claimed that both Liverpool and City ‘make each other better’.

Nobody in the Premier League has been able to live up to the quality, speed and standards both Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp’s men have set during these past few seasons.

Jamie Carragher asked City’s £55 million player [BBC Sport] how important it is to start off in a strong fashion and set the pace in the title race, as Liverpool fans will love his honest answer.

“We know you need to start well,” De Bruyne told Sky Sports. “The only thing we can do is play game by game and Thursday is another one and we’ll try to do our best.

“But we know if the pace is the same as the last three years then it’s going to be a hard job. We want to fight against them. We need to fight against them.

“I think we make each other better and that’s what, for me, sport is all about.”

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

  1. Champions League

    2018/19

  2. UEFA Super Cup

    2019

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

    2019

  4. Premier League

    2019/20

Whilst Liverpool cruised to their first English crown in 30 years last season, many of their fans will understand that it’s not going to be that easy this time around.

There will be a sense of hunger and something to prove from City, who arguably have one of the best footballers on the planet on their hands in De Bruyne.

If both teams can keep their key players fit then it wouldn’t be a surprise if the title race goes down to the wire, but whilst Klopp and Guardiola have all the attacking flair in the world, it’s perhaps their defences that may prove to be the difference.
