Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne was asked to pick between Liverpool’s Anfield or Manchester United’s Old Trafford whilst taking a part in a quickfire answer game.

The Belgium international is rivals with both clubs on and off the field – Liverpool with their Premier League title battles and being Manchester United’s old neighbours.

Well, de Bruyne opted to pick Liverpool’s home of Anfield over Manchester United’s theatre of dreams turned nightmares at Old Trafford, as he told ESPN UK.

Both are one of the most historic and well-known grounds in English football – but in terms of success of late, they are on the other side of the scale.

Liverpool might have dropped points on the opening weekend of the new season when they recorded a 2-2 draw at Fulham, but their fans are upbeat, confident and very much looking forward to the season ahead.

They play their first home game of the 22/23 campaign when Crystal Palace make the trip to Merseyside on Monday night – and all three points will be expected.

MEANWHILE AT OLD TRAFFORD…

You just have to listen to the moans, groans, frustrations and booing of Manchester United’s opening day defeat to Brighton, and that tells part of the story.

Rather than being upbeat about the new season, #EmptyOldTrafford is trending on Twitter instead, as fans express their anger at how the club is being run.

This isn’t a today thing or what has been happening for the past few years, but the Manchester United fans wanting the Glazers out is something that was protested back when David Beckham was still playing.

Either way, as things stand, English football’s two giants are heading in opposite directions.
