Kevin Davies concedes he would have considered Newcastle United move.

Former Southampton and Bolton Wanderers striker Kevin Davies has admitted to The Chronicle that he would have been “very tempted” to join Newcastle United once upon a time.
The 39-year-old forward hung up his boots last September following a two-year stint with Preston North End.

Davies represented six different clubs – including two spells with Southampton – across his 22-year senior career, but never played for Newcastle despite admitting that St James’s Park was his favourite away ground to visit.
And the one-time England international reveals that he would have found it very hard to turn down the Magpies had they come knocking for his services at one stage.

“I’ve never had any official contact with Newcastle,” he said to The Chronicle.
“I loved playing at St James’ Park, it was my favourite place to play, and it’s a great area where people absolutely love their football.
“It’s one that would have been very, very tempting but I never really got the opportunity to consider that possibility.”
Newcastle sit fourth in the Championship with nine points from a possible 15, which seems mediocre but Rafael Benitez’s side lost their first two matches.
Since then, United have enjoyed a three-match winning streak, and they visit Derby County on Saturday in what is perhaps their toughest game to date.
They were big pre-season favourites for promotion, and victory at the iPro Stadium would strengthen suggestions that they can secure an immediate return to the Premier League.
