Everton drew with League Two minnows Bury on Wednesday evening.
Former Everton captain Kevin Campbell has urged Everton manager Marco Silva to “get ruthless” with his Toffees squad after a disappointing 1-1 draw with League Two outfit Bury – and wants a surprise midfielder to be included more often.
Oumar Niasse scored Everton’s only goal of the game after being denied three times in quick succession by the woodwork, as Everton remained dominant but unable to break Bury down.
Senegalese striker Niasse latched on to Matthew Pennington’s long ball before smashing home to cancel out Neil Danns’ opener, with Campbell in attendance at Gigg Lane.
Everton are yet to make any signings but Campbell has urged The Toffees’ new manager to be ruthless and offload a number of first-team stars following the draw, but reckons midfielder Joe Williams deserves a promotion into the first team.
Williams, 21, could be looking to break into Everton’s first team this season after starring for Championship side Barnsley last season in their fight against the drop.
The Toffees boast a huge array of central midfielders in their side, including the likes of Tom Davies, Idrissa Gueye, Morgan Schneiderlin, Mo Besic and Davy Klaassen, but Williams could be given a chance if he continues to impress.
Everton are next in action in the Algarve Cup, where they face Lille and Porto on Saturday and Sunday, before finishing their pre-season against Blackburn Rovers and Valencia.
