Kevin Campbell has said on Highbury Squad that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta should include Gabriel Martinelli in the starting lineup against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Anfield this evening.

What’s the story?

Liverpool will take on Arsenal at Anfield in the Premier League this evening.

Former Arsenal striker Campbell has urged manager Arteta to include Martinelli in the starting lineup.

The Sky Sports pundit believes that the 20-year-old Brazilian forward should play ahead of Nicolas Pepe.

The Englishman has explained why Martinelli is suited to playing against Liverpool.

Campbell said on Highbury Squad: “I would start Martinelli because I truly believe, if Martinelli were to play, one, I think he likes the big occasion, and two, his energy is incredible.

“That’s what you need against Liverpool. You need to match them, you need to have energy, you need to be tenacious, and I think Pepe has got the ability, but he is not tenacious enough.”

Could Gabriel Martinelli start against Liverpool?

Martinelli is a very talented and promising young forward who is rated highly by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Back in November 2019, Klopp described the Brazilian youngster as “a talent of the century”.

Martinelli has had injury problems since then and is not guaranteed a place in the Arsenal starting lineup now.

In our view, it is unlikely that Arteta will include the forward in the starting lineup against Liverpool.

There are doubts over the fitness of star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but Arteta is likely to keep Martinelli on the bench.
