Kevin Campbell suggested on Highbury Squad that Reiss Nelson could replace Nicolas Pepe in the Arsenal team against Wolverhampton Wanderers this coming weekend.

Pepe was sent off during Arsenal’s goalless draw with Leeds United away from home at Elland Road in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

The winger will now miss the Gunners’ next three league games, meaning that manager Mikel Arteta will have to replace him in the lineup, starting with the match against Wolves at the Emirates Stadium this coming Sunday.

Former Arsenal striker Campbell has suggested 20-year-old winger Nelson as a possible candidate.

Campbell said on Highbury Squad: “You could bring in Reiss Neison to play on that right-hand side. I thought Reiss Neison did pretty well when he came on.

“He worked very hard, and it was down to 10 men. Listen, any player who is going to pull on that shirt has to put a shift in. That’s the bare minimum, and Reiss Neison has done that.”

Reiss Nelson for Nicolas Pepe?

Pepe’s performances for Arsenal so far this season have not been exactly great, while Nelson has worked hard and tried to make things happen when he has been given the chance.

The 20-year-old is still quite inexperienced, but it could be worth the gamble handing the youngster a start against Wolves.

According to WhoScored, the winger has played 45 minutes in the Premier League and 91 minutes in the Europa League so far this season, while during the 2019-20 campaign, he made seven starts in the league.
