Days after losing to Leeds United in the Championship, Stoke City bounced back by knocking them out of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

Tyrese Campbell of Stoke City goes down injured during the Carabao Cup second round match between Leeds United and Stoke City at Elland Road on August 27, 2019 in Leeds, England.

Kevin Campbell has praised his son, Tyrese, for his performance during Stoke City’s penalty shootout win against Leeds United in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

Stoke came into this fixture having suffered a comprehensive defeat at the hands of Leeds only a few days earlier, but Nathan Jones made changes from that Championship game, including giving Campbell a start.

The 19-year-old, who is the son of Arsenal and Everton legend Kevin Campbell, impressed on the night and even provided the assist for Stoke City’s second goal, which was finished by Sam Vokes at the near post.

After the game, Kevin Campbell took to his personal Twitter account to praise his son for how he performed at Elland Road despite not starting a game since pre-season.

It was an impressive reaction from Stoke, who produced a strong first-half performance, but they could have easily lost it after the break.

Marcela Bielsa’s side kept coming at Stoke, with Eddie Nketiah and Helder Cota getting on the scoresheet, but the game ended up going to penalties.

Jack Butland, who has produced a number of horror shows in recent weeks, stepped up to take Stoke’s fifth penalty and scored. Jack Harrison then missed the crucial spot-kick, which hit the post.
