Kevin Campbell has named Wilfried Ndidi and Houssem Aouar as Thomas Partey’s perfect midfield partners while talking to the Highbury Squad YouTube channel.
The former Gunners striker was taking part in a discussion about the problems at Arsenal at the moment, and he was asked to suggest some midfield signings that could partner Partey under Mikel Arteta.
The Arsenal legend was initially reluctant to offer up any options, but after having a little bit of time to think, he named Aouar and Ndidi as two who could flourish alongside Partey.
Campbell argued that Arsenal’s system is a little bit too complex to just pluck a name out of the air due to the fact he doesn’t know whether or not Partey is going to play as a six or an eight for the Gunners.
However, he then offered options for both of those situations.
“You could say, ok if Thomas Partey is going to move a bit further forward, go out and get Ndidi to sit in there. No problem, but it just depends, you can either get an Aouar who gets further forward, or you get an Ndidi type so that Partey can do box-to-box,” Campbell said.
Arsenal are still one piece of the puzzle away from solving their midfield problems.

Campbell is right, Arteta needs to figure out what he wants to do with Partey before he signs another midfielder to plug the gap alongside him.
Ndidi would be an excellent addition if the Gunners are looking for a more defensive minded partner for the Ghanaian, while Aouar would be the better option if Partey is going to shoulder more defensive responsibility.
It will certainly be interesting to see how Arsenal deal with their midfield over the next 12 months, Dani Ceballos is set to head back to Madrid, while Lucas Torreira is supposed to come back from loan, so there will be problems to solve for Arteta next summer.
