Liverpool were reportedly interested in Nicolas Pepe prior to his move to Arsenal.

Sky Sports pundit Kevin Campbell has claimed that new Arsenal signing Nicolas Pepe would have helped Liverpool’s frontline had he made a transfer switch to Anfield instead.
At the start of the month, Arsenal secured the £72 million signing of Lille’s highly-rated winger Pepe [BBC Sport], but he has also linked with Liverpool also, as reported by the Times.
The capture of Pepe for Arsenal is an impressive one because he scored 22 times in France’s top league last term, and he will be looking to transcend that form into England’s top-flight.
Speaking to Football Centre on Sky Sports Football (05/08/2019 at 10:40 am), Campbell shared his thoughts on Liverpool’s summer transfer and why they would have needed a player like Pepe.
On Liverpool’s lack of transfer activity: “If the right player becomes available that’s when you make the move to go and get him,” Campbell told Sky Sports. “There was talk that they were after Nicholas Pepe, who Arsenal signed, but the fact is they have players coming back from injury.

“The likes of Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana. These players can be like new signings.
What Liverpool need: “Perhaps another creative player or another striker. Like I said, there was talk that they were after Pepe. He would have helped with what they do because of the way they break and the way they play. That front three are dynamic and dynamite. They didn’t get him, but I am sure if the right players become available then they will get him.”
Whilst Arsenal still have defensive problems, there front three has been transformed even further with the capture of Pepe from France.
Liverpool supporters will be hoping their club will add fresh new faces to their squad before Thursday’s deadline, as they are in need of some squad depth.
