Keown: West Ham are already doomed in relegation fight

West Ham suffered a dismal 4-0 loss to Everton on Wednesday night.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has told the Daily Mail in his ‘Tackle Keown’ column that he believes West Ham United are already doomed in their fight to avoid relegation.

The Hammers suffered an abysmal 4-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Everton on Wednesday night, as David Unsworth bowed out from his role as interim manager on a high thanks to a Wayne Rooney hat-trick and an Ashley Williams header.

It leaves David Moyes with plenty of work to do after taking just one point from his three matches in charge against Watford, Leicester and Everton, as the east Londoners remain in a lowly 18th place in the Premier League.

Keown criticised West Ham duo Andre Ayew and Manuel Lanzini for their performances in the loss and believes West Ham are already fighting a losing battle by trying to stay in the Premier League.

Keown also raised an alarming truth for Hammers fans, stating that Moyes does not have the best record when it comes to relegation fights.

“I think they probably are [doomed]. I was quite shocked and stunned by their performance against Everton,” Keown said. “There was no cohesion in West Ham’s team [against Everton].

“Up top, Andre Ayew did not seem to be a focal point. Manuel Lanzini is their best player by far but they could not get him on the ball. He was a passenger in the first half.

“When you look at West Ham and Swansea at the moment, it is difficult to find anyone worse in the Premier League. He [Moyes] has to be given time and he is going to need the upcoming transfer window.

“The problem is that when you look at Sunderland, his previous club, he could not make a difference.”

The Hammers conceded a penalty when Joe Hart brought down Dom Calvert-Lewin, which the Man City loanee saved before Rooney headed in. The latter scored his second after good work from Tom Davies.

He completed his hat-trick with a wonderful drive from inside his own half that has been talked about as one of the Premier League’s best ever goals, before Williams headed home a fourth.

West Ham now face an almighty uphill task when looking at the fixture list, as they face Man City on Sunday before going up against London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal on December 9 and 13.
