Martin Keown has suggested that Arsenal’s Joe Willock still needs to learn the tactical side of the game, despite being impressed by his display as Mikel Arteta’s side beat Dundalk 3-0 in the Europa League.
Speaking to BT Sport, during their live Europa League coverage, Keown opened up about how he feels that Willock needs to be given more tactical instruction.
According to the former Gunners defender, Willock has previously looked lost on the pitch and not too assured over what his role was.
But Keown feels that the 21-year-old can still have a part to play at the Emirates Stadium.
“When I watched him last season he was coming on late in games and wasn’t sure of where to be on the pitch,” he said.
“Arteta is a great tactician and he gives good information to the players, I want to see more given to him.
“I want him to work with Willock and really see what we can get from him.

“He has to find the moment to release the ball and when to run with the ball. When Arsenal are out of possession he needs to learn where to be.”
Despite Keown’s concerns about his positioning, Willock really caught the eye when he was on the ball last night.
The youngster grabbed an assist and a goal as Arsenal cruised past their Irish opponents in the Europa League.
Willock’s display was a timely reminder of the quality that he does possess, and it may just put him in contention to start against Manchester United on Sunday.
