Glasgow Rangers could soon have a new first-team coach in the form of the Ibrox favourite.
According to a recent report from the Scottish Sun, new Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is considering offering striker Kenny Miller the role of first-team coach at Ibrox next season, while giving him an extension to his current deal in the process.
Miller is out of contract at the end of the campaign and despite his dwindling goal return, the move would make sense for all concerned.
After all, Miller is one of the few current Rangers players that understand the DNA of the club, and removing that at a key moment in their history is a mistake Caixinha is clearly keen to avoid.
Miller may have only scored six league goals – and only nine in all competitions – this season yet he is vital for Rangers as they look to build a sustained and viable title challenge next season.
While he may play less and less under Caixinha, the veteran’s presence on the training field will mean he can instil what it means to play for Rangers into the current crop and any new arrivals this summer.
In short, Miller’s understanding of the club, its history and its rivalries could be far more important than his goals.
