Old Firm legend Kenny Miller has warned Giovanni van Bronckhorst that he will need to make a ‘huge’ signing to replace Rangers stalwart Connor Goldson in the summer transfer window, speaking to Go Radio.
Goldson is not only Rangers’ most reliable centre-half – a major presence in both boxes and a key cog in their ability to build up attacks thanks to those trademark, raking diagonal passes – he is also pretty much the first name on the team-sheet.
He has been ever since he arrived, in a £3 million deal from Brighton and Hove Albion four years ago.
Remarkably, Goldson has played all 90 minutes in all but one of Rangers’ Scottish Premiership games since the start of the 2019/20 season. And he only missed that 2-1 victory over St Johnstone in September due to self-isolation rules.
So, with Goldson’s contract running out in July, Miller has a point when he says that Rangers are up against it as they plan for life without a man who has almost come to define the term ‘ever-present’.
Who will be Rangers’ new Connor Goldson?
“If Connor Goldson leaves there’s going to be a huge addition needed,” says Miller, who played for both Rangers and Celtic during his time north of the border.
“He’s been an ever-present, he’s started pretty much every single game since he arrived at the club four years ago. He’ll need to be replaced. That’s the first one.”

Rangers have, at least, agreed a deal to bring in giant Scotland international John Souttar on a free transfer from Premiership rivals Hearts.
The Glasgow giants are also hopeful of tying up another bargain deal for Vitesse Arnhem captain Danilho Doekhi.
The £2 million-rated Eredivisie stopper admitted, a couple of months ago, that Rangers were ‘watching’ him closely in the lead up a potential summer transfer.

The Gers could to lose Goldson’s centre-back partner Leon Balogun this summer too, while Filip Helander and Jack Simpson are also facing uncertain futures.
