Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths recently stole the headline with a sensational brace of free-kicks for Scotland against England on Saturday.

Griffiths’ spotkicks nearly grabbed a famous win for the Scots, but a late goal from Harry Kane meant the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Rangers striker, Kenny Miller, has showered praise on his Celtic counterpart, saying he deserves huge credit for the way he performed as a lone striker.

With those two goals, the 26-year-old finally got off the mark at international level. Miller, who represented Scotland 69 times, praised Griffiths’ overall effort and especially his constant effort to close the opponent goalkeeper down.

“I’m delighted for Leigh that he’s opened his account, and what a way to do it. It’s just a shame it wasn’t the goals that got us the three points,” said Miller, as quoted by The Evening Times.

“But his all-round play was very good – he worked hard, from the first minute when he closed the goalkeeper down and blocked it.

“Sometimes that’s all you’ve got to do when you’re that lone striker for Scotland, particularly when you’re playing the top teams.

“You’ve got a lot of hard work to do, and he was tracking back on to Eric Dier in the second half to nick the ball off his toes. All round, for a lone striker, the number nine for Scotland, I thought it was a very good performance.”

Griffiths enjoyed a superb 2016/17 campaign for Celtic under Brendan Rodgers, where he scored 18 goals in all competitions.

Interestingly, after his heroics against England, he has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion, both credited with interest.

However, it seems, Griffiths is not keen to leave Celtic at the moment, and has expressed his desire to continue under Rodgers.
