Kenny Miller has told Rangers’ official website that Jamie Barjonas deserves additional praise for his performance in the Gers’ win over St Johnstone on the final day of the Scottish Premiership season.

Pedro Caixinha’s men brought the curtain down on what has been an extremely difficult campaign with a 2-1 win to finish 39 points adrift of champions Celtic.

While the early stages of Caixinha’s tenure have not gone perfectly to plan, one positive change he has made is the number of youngsters who have been given their first-team chance, including Barjonas, who made his first start in the win at McDiarmid Park.

And Miller was full of praise for the 18-year-old following his display in the win.

“We should be really pleased with the performance and the result because of that and I think a wee special mention should go to Jamie Barjonas,” he told the club’s official website.

“I thought Barjo was excellent to today, he came on and has made a decent impact in the couple of games he has played so far and starting today I thought he was brilliant.”

If last summer’s transfer activity is anything to go by, Caixinha will have to be canny in the market if he hopes to close the gap to Celtic at the top of the table, especially as they will be gearing up for another Champions League qualification campaign.

So not only will having the likes of Barjonas, along with David Bates, Myles Beerman and Aidan Wilson around the squad help as they should have a number of players who could perhaps develop into first-team regulars having not cost the club any money, but it will also send a great message out to younger targets attached to other clubs.

They will know that if they move to Ibrox, there is a clear path to the first-team. And while the season was disappointing this year, there is no question that joining the Gers should still attract some of the best prospects around.
