Kenny Miller has told BBC SportSound that Callum McGregor’s recent form should make him one of the first names on Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic team sheet – and Alex McLeish’s Scotland.

The 25-year-old has featured in every single one of Celtic’s 25 league and cup outings this season, with his ability to play in multiple positions coming to the fore as the Hoops suffer an extensive injury list.

McGregor has played in attacking midfield, out wide, holding midfield and even left-back this season, as he continues to shine in green and white. He has scored four goals and added four assists.

Former Celtic and Rangers striker Miller drooled over the seven-time Scotland international, describing as McGregor as “excellent” and reckons he should be a key fixture of both Celtic and Scotland’s side.

“I think Callum McGregor needs to be highlighted,” Miller said. “I’m a huge, huge fan of his. He can play anywhere, he’s versatile, he can play in the 10 role, in a two, off the right. With [Scott] Brown out, he played in a deeper role against us.

“He’s just excellent. He always makes the right decisions, but he can still give you something going forward. He’s really stepped up, I think he should be one of the first names on the team sheet for Celtic and Scotland.”

Despite his consistent form for Scottish champions Celtic, McGregor has only been afforded seven caps for the national side. Under McLeish, though, McGregor has played Scotland’s last four matches.

McGregor is expected to start for Celtic on Thursday evening as he continues to deputise for captain Scott Brown in the holding midfield role. The Bhoys go up against RedBull Leipzig in Group B of the Europa League.
